TEACHER TRAINING

Training of Teachers is a very important aspect of school education. In-service training of teachers helps enhance the professional skills of School Teachers by keeping them updated with latest developments in their respective fields of study, teaching methodology and child psychology etc. It also encourages them to experiment with the content using innovative techniques. Ultimately it makes the teacher enthusiastic and confident of his/her knowledge and skills.

We believe that to be effective and geared for the 21st century; a teacher needs a vast repertoire of professional skills. In addition the teacher must also have updated knowledge about the best practices prevalent around the world. Hence in this module, we help the teacher to update his/her knowledge and also equip him/her with appropriate professional skills.

An important requisite for all human interaction is the skill of communication and the teaching-learning process also works best with effective communication of ideas and thoughts. This session will help teachers become effective facilitators in the process of learning. This in turn will help students communicate more effectively with each other and think more independently.

The role of a teacher is to open several windows of opportunity to the students. This session will equip teachers with simple yet innovative learning strategies that will help students make learning more effective. Teachers will learn to select the most appropriate learning strategies, keeping in mind the associated attributes of target students, the learning objectives and the assessment paradigms. Simulated situations will help teachers to practice these strategies and this will result in instructional effectiveness

Teachers will come to realize that motivation is something that energizes, directs and sustains behaviour. It gets students moving, gives them direction to move and keeps them going. Motivation results in enhanced performance. In this session teachers will understand how to maximize student motivation. The session will also focus on intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. Teachers will understand the importance of being sensitive to the motivational needs of students.

In this session teachers will understand the relevance of Multiple Intelligence. They will understand that every individual possesses a unique combination of the multiple intelligences. They will understand that the instructional style must correlate with the multiple intelligences. They will be exposed to various activities that can help in promoting the different intelligences. Teachers will also learn to create and implement Multiple Intelligence Lesson Plan.

Effective planning leads to a smooth and energized lesson and a clear-cut understanding of instructional objectives results in meeting desired student outcomes. This session will help teachers hone their planning skills. They will be exposed to designing lesson plans that will provide structure to student learning. We will share Lesson Plans based on Morrison's Unit Plan, RCEM Approach, Bloom Taxonomy Based Lesson Plans and Lessons on Experiential Learning (E5).

Academic Performance of students is dependent on several factors like: Physical, Emotional, Environmental, Intelligence, Concentration etc. Teachers need to diagnose the causes of poor performance of a student and remedy the situation through Intervention & Remediation.

Effective teaching and sound learning depends on how a teacher manages the classroom environment while motivating the students, taking care of personal behaviour of pupils and all this depends on being prepared with appropriate classroom management techniques.

The biggest challenge that teachers face is organizing their time towards imparting learning to their students. This session will deal with an understanding of how to maximize Academic learning time and engaged time. Teachers will also be exposed to various tools that will help them to manage time effectively. As a result of this session teachers will be able to develop Time Management Skills in their students also.

Every teacher is endowed with a vast creative capacity for growth towards self-realization. This session will take a look at how a teacher can maximize his/ her potential and become proactive, increase the circle of influence & develop habits of mind and focus on self-renewal.

In this session, teachers are introduced to the three Domains (Cognitive, Affective & Psychomotor) of personality. Bloom Taxonomy is revisited and teachers are encouraged to develop Lessons, Question, and Test Items on LOTS & HOTS. Thinking and Thinking Skills are discussed. Thinkers Keys, Scamper, SOLO and Marzano Taxonomy are also explained.

In this session teachers will be provided opportunities to explore how assessment can be expanded to focus on the process of learning, which will help both teachers and students to enhance the quality of teaching and learning. This session will help teachers to focus on assessment as a device for further planning and teaching. What for and How of Formative Assessment will be clarified by developing Formative Assessments for Diagnostic & Remedial purposes.

Learning environment is a very important factor that accelerates the process of learning. A highly challenging and a low threat environment helps students to improve on their learning. This session will help teachers create and maintain a stimulating and safe learning environment in which students will be able to take intellectual risks and work independently and collaboratively. This session also deals with Instructional Aids, which will help teachers, make learning more concrete, effective, interesting, inspirational and meaningful.

In this session the teachers will be exposed to Edward de Bono's tools for effective thinking. These thinking tools provide the framework from parallel thinking to lateral thinking. These simple yet effective tools can be used by teachers of Primary classes to Higher Secondary to stimulate the thinking process in their students.

Teachers will learn to recognize and diagnose various student behaviour problems. They will be able to use a variety of tools to manage behaviour in the classroom so that they are able to maintain an environment in which all students are able to learn. This session will help teachers develop a Discipline plan and work out strategies to inculcate good behaviour inside the classroom. This session also focuses on the use a variety of positive consequence techniques.

Academic Learning is as essential as Social & Emotional Learning. Teachers need to follow the seven Principles of Responsive Classrooms and create a conducive, Emotional and Social Climate for Learning.

This session will introduce teachers to different group configurations, which they could use in their classes to make learning more effective. They will learn various strategies to manage group work effectively. Group work will provide students with opportunities to think for themselves, it will engage students with activities that improve their understanding of the subject; they will be able to share strengths and develop their weaker skills. Group work will also help students to be accountable for their work and the group as a whole.

This session will give an insight into how the brain impacts Human Learning. Teachers will understand the structure of the brain. They will also understand how the brain learns and remembers information. Teachers will be exposed to the principles & educational implications of Brain Based Learning.

To become an effective teacher it is important that a teacher has the right attitude, empathy and is caring. If schools and teachers are to develop future generations of thinking and committed citizens, then they have to look within themselves and see whether they themselves have the right commitment and thinking. In this session teachers will understand and analyse ways in which their beliefs have shaped the teaching practices. They will be provided opportunities for self-reflection to help them explore their individual beliefs about purpose of education, epistemology, and the impact a teacher has on her students. Teachers will gain an insight into the changing needs of the world and thus the changing role of the teacher and the student.

This session will amass all the learning strategies of all other previous sessions and thus: -
a) Reflect on the impact of this program on the teaching learning practices & teacher attitude,
b) Analyse the driving forces and the restraining forces to bring about a change in the teaching learning process,
c) Visualize the school 5 years into the future and
d) Create an action plan to realize the vision.
